Heart of Lions Edge Samartex to Go Top of Ghana Premier League
Heart of Lions claimed their second away victory of the season with a hard-fought 1-0 win over defending champions FC Samartex 1996 at the Nsenkyire Sports Arena on Saturday afternoon.
Nana Kwame Oppong struck the game’s only goal just two minutes in, converting a well-timed assist from Kwadwo Obeng Junior. The early lead proved decisive as Lions held firm for the rest of the match.
The victory catapulted Bashir Hayford’s side to the top of the Ghana Premier League standings, extending their unbeaten streak to six games. The Lions have now lost just once in their last 21 league outings, a remarkable run that has solidified their title ambitions this season.
Samartex, despite being reigning champions, struggled to break down Lions’ organized defence. The Timber Giants dominated possession in parts of the match but failed to convert their chances, leaving them without a win in their last four matches across all competitions.
Heart of Lions will aim to maintain their momentum in their next fixture as they continue their march towards a possible league title.
