On Monday, September 17 2023, the Elections Committee in charge of GFA’s upcoming elections dismissed the appeal by George Akwasi Afriyie for his disqualification from the Presidential race.

Following, the opening of nomination for individuals interested in contesting for the 2023 GFA elections in August, the astute football administrator George Afriyie filed his nomination with forms costing GHC50,000.

Despite, putting in all efforts he was disqualified for failing to secure five endorsement as stated in the regulations, thus according to the Elections Committee after revealing that one signatory Jeffrey Asare is not a Director to lower-tier club Victory Club Warriors SC. He appealed for justice but no, it didn’t hold.

He can not run the race due to his ineligibility having had his appeal dismissed by the appeals Committee of the Elections Committee.

Speaking in an interview, a club owner and member of George Afriyie’s camp team Abdul Salam Yakubu disclosed that they were expecting the outcome of the verdict to go against George Afriyie, therefore ain’t surprised.

However, GFA President Kurt Okraku should stop exhibiting this attitude and stop creating enemies amongst football people.

Adding that, if the GFA Presidentt wants to create enemies, they can make it possible.

“We know today before 10:00pm, the verdict will be out. And when it’s out, they will disqualify George Akwasi Afriyie and we know all this” Everything, that transpired at the committee we are preview to, yes we know but that won’t work”

“If you want to create fight between us, fine. Do you [Kurt Okraku] want us to be serious enemies?

“We will form our GFA if Kurt and his associates continue to exhibit such disrespectful conducts” – Abdul Salam Yakubu on the dismissal of George Afriyie’s appeal told Prof. E.K Wallace on Asempa FM SportNite.

Meanwhile, it’s unclear whether George Afriyie will visit higher judicial body over his disqualification from the GFA Presidential race.
