Nsuopon Fidelity Edge AshantiGold to Open X1 DOL Super Cup Campaign
Nsuopon Fidelity FC began their 2026 X1 DOL Super Cup campaign on a winning note after securing a narrow 1-0 victory over FC AshantiGold at the Obuasi Len Clay Stadium.
The Group B encounter remained finely balanced for most of the afternoon before Andrews Cobbinah produced the decisive moment in the 82nd minute, firing home to hand Fidelity all three points.
Neither side managed to break the deadlock in the opening half despite creating promising opportunities. AshantiGold forward Richmond Fosu was among the players who came closest to scoring but failed to convert his chances.
Fidelity returned from the break with a more purposeful approach after head coach Abdul Fatawu made tactical adjustments to his side.
The changes eventually paid dividends late in the contest when Cobbinah found the breakthrough eight minutes from full time, securing a valuable victory for the Zone Two debutants.
The result gives Nsuopon Fidelity an ideal start to their Super Cup campaign as they look to test themselves against some of the country’s top Division One and Premier League sides.
Fidelity enjoyed an impressive first season in the Division One League last campaign, finishing third in Zone Two with 51 points.
Their opening victory came against an AshantiGold side that dominated the same zone last season, collecting 64 points to secure their maiden promotion to the Ghana Premier League.
With both clubs having ambitions of establishing themselves at a higher level, the encounter provided an early glimpse of the competitive quality expected throughout the 2026 X1 DOL Super Cup.
