Ghana’s Men’s Volleyball and Handball Teams Triumph Over Hosts Burkina Faso at ANOCA Zone 3 Games
Team Ghana recorded a memorable double victory on Day 3 of the ANOCA Zone 3 Games in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, as both the Men’s Volleyball and Men’s Handball Teams defeated the host nation in thrilling fashion on Wednesday.
In the afternoon fixture, Ghana’s Men’s Volleyball Team extended their impressive form with a straight-sets victory (3–0) over Burkina Faso. The Ghanaians showcased dominance and composure throughout the encounter, winning 24–16, 24–22, and 24–18 to silence the passionate home crowd at the Stade du Aout. The result marked Ghana’s second successive win in the competition, strengthening their chances of advancing to the knockout stage.
Later in the evening, the Men’s Handball Team added to the nation’s joy with a dramatic 25–24 victory against Burkina Faso. After narrowly losing their opening match to Niger (34–35), the team showed immense resilience to bounce back. Ghana trailed 11–12 at halftime but displayed exceptional teamwork and grit in the second half to edge out the hosts by a single point.
Speaking after the hard-fought win, team captain Yaw Fyn shared his excitement and praised his teammates’ unity and perseverance.
“The euphoria and excitement are overwhelming because we came into this game as underdogs. Everything was against us — the referees, match delegates, and supporters were all from Burkina Faso, so we knew we had only ourselves to trust. Everyone gave their maximum effort, and by God’s grace, we won. We’ll take it one game at a time. Every match is a final to us,” he said.
The victories underline Ghana’s growing momentum in the regional competition, as both teams continue to demonstrate skill, determination, and national pride.
Up next, both the Men’s Volleyball and Handball Teams will face Togo on Thursday, October 16, as they aim to maintain their winning streaks and strengthen their bids for medals at the continental event.
