Incoming Black Stars assistant coach Roger De Sa has set a clear tone ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, insisting Ghana’s new technical bench will prioritise commitment and national pride as preparations gather momentum.

The South African tactician is poised to link up once again with head coach Carlos Queiroz, rekindling a working relationship forged during previous assignments with Iran and Egypt. The pair now take charge of Ghana following the departure of Otto Addo earlier this year.

Speaking in an interview, De Sa emphasised that the focus is not on lofty promises but on delivering maximum effort on the global stage.

“It’s all it is. We will do the best we can. There is no mandate to win this and that,” he said.

“The job is to go to the World Cup and fly the Ghanaian flag as high as possible,” De Sa added.

The newly assembled technical team is scheduled to be unveiled in Accra on April 23, after which attention will immediately shift to on-field preparations. Ghana are expected to fine-tune their squad with friendly matches against Mexico national football team and Wales national football team ahead of the tournament.

At the Mundial, the Black Stars, set for their fifth appearance will compete in a challenging Group L alongside Panama national football team, England national football team and Croatia national football team.

With recent World Cup campaigns ending at the group stage, expectations are building for a more competitive showing as Ghana looks to reassert itself on football’s biggest stage.
