Ghana’s sprint squad has made an electrifying start to the 2026 indoor season, with four athletes booking early tickets to the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Toruń, Poland, scheduled for March 20–22 at the Kujawsko-Pomorska Arena.

The men’s 60 metres has emerged as a major area of strength for the Black Star contingent, with three sprinters already surpassing the qualification benchmark. Saminu Abdul-Rasheed has been the headline act, blazing to a personal best of 6.54 seconds at the Jarvis Scott Invitational in Texas, a time that also briefly ranked as the fastest in the world this season.

He is joined by Barnabas Kobby Asante Aggerh, who clocked 6.57 seconds, and Mustapha Alufar Bopkin, who matched the qualifying standard with a 6.59-second run. The trio’s performances underline Ghana’s growing reputation as a sprinting force on the global stage.

In the women’s ranks, Evonne Fatimah Britton has added to the excitement after qualifying for the 60 metres hurdles with a time of 7.99 seconds. The American-born hurdler, who officially switched allegiance to Ghana in 2024, continues to strengthen the country’s technical events programme with her consistency and experience.

Britton, a former World U20 400m hurdles silver medallist, transitioned to the short hurdles after 2015 and has since competed at major international meets, including her debut for Ghana at the African Senior Athletics Championships in Cameroon.

With four athletes already confirmed for Toruń, Ghana’s athletics team heads into the championships with growing confidence and momentum. The strong indoor showings suggest the nation is well-positioned to challenge established powers when the world’s best converge in Poland next month.
