The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has officially announced the establishment of a Communications Sub-Committee as part of efforts to enhance its communication strategy and promote the Olympic Movement in Ghana.

According to a press release issued on Thursday, the new sub-committee is composed of experienced professionals from the fields of communications, sports, and media.

Its primary aim is to support the GOC in reviving vibrancy within the organization, fostering public trust, and improving visibility and engagement for Ghanaian sports.

The Communications Sub-Committee has been given a comprehensive mandate, including:

  • Leading the design, coordination, and execution of all internal and external communication activities of the GOC.

  • Positioning the GOC leadership as credible, responsive, and forward-looking.

  • Acting as a liaison between the GOC and key stakeholders such as federations, media, public institutions, and international bodies.

  • Providing technical communication support to national sports federations to enhance their capacity and public profile.

  • Promoting accurate, timely, and consistent messaging on all matters relating to the GOC’s goals and activities.

“The GOC believes this sub-committee will play a vital role in showcasing Ghana’s sports achievements and promoting the Olympic values,” the release stated.

The committee will be chaired by Mr. Ernest Danso, the 3rd Vice-President of the GOC. He will be joined by Mr. Edwin Amankwah, a Board Member of the GOC, while Mr. Edmund Ackom will serve as a Digital Consultant. Other notable members include Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, President and Founder of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF), who will serve as the Communication Director, and Mr. Kenneth Odeng Adade, Secretary-General of the Ghana Weightlifting Federation, who will act as the Press Officer.

Commenting on the formation of the sub-committee, GOC President Mr. Richard Akpokavie expressed optimism:
“We are excited about this development and confident that the Communications Sub-Committee will help us achieve our goals by developing and implementing effective communication strategies that will promote the GOC’s programs and activities to enhance stakeholder engagement and media relations.”

The initiative is expected to elevate the GOC’s communication capabilities and align its messaging with its broader mission to develop sports and uphold Olympic values across Ghana.
