After an impressive second-place finish in the Greater Accra Men’s Volleyball League, El-Wak Wings have shifted their focus to a bigger challenge—the African Clubs Championship in Libya.

The prestigious continental competition, which will take place from April 17 to April 30, will feature 25 of Africa’s top volleyball clubs, with El-Wak Wings proudly representing Ghana.

The team is scheduled to depart for Libya on April 15, determined to make an impact on the big stage.

The championship will begin with a round-robin format, where all participating clubs will battle it out for a place in the knockout phase. The round of 16, quarterfinals, semifinals, and final will determine which club emerges as champions of Africa.

With rigorous training sessions and a well-drilled squad, El-Wak Wings are eager to test their strength against the best teams on the continent. However, despite their sporting readiness, the team faces a major financial obstacle that could derail their journey.

The club’s CEO has made a heartfelt appeal for financial assistance, urging corporate bodies, government institutions, and the general public to step in and support the team’s continental quest.

“We are going to represent Ghana and hoist the Ghanaian flag high. We appeal to corporate bodies and agencies to come to our aid. We also call on the Ministry of Sports and Recreation for support,” the CEO told the Daily Graphic.

With the newly appointed Minister of Youth and Sports, Mr. Kofi Adams, now in office, the CEO is hopeful that urgent assistance will be provided to ensure the team’s participation.

“We are appealing to the new Sports Minister to come to our aid and ensure we can represent Ghana in this tournament,” he added.

El-Wak Wings require at least $35,000 to cover travel, accommodation, and other logistics for the tournament. Without this funding, Ghana’s only representative in the African Clubs Championship risks missing out on this vital opportunity to showcase their talent and bring glory to the nation.

With time running out before their April 15 departure, the team remains hopeful that the necessary funds will be secured to make their dream of competing on the continental stage a reality.
