Doris Boaduwaa Issues Apology After Underwhelming WAFCON Campaign
Black Queens forward Doris Boaduwaa has issued a heartfelt apology to her fans following a below-par showing at the 2024 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The 22-year-old striker was part of the Ghana squad that secured a historic third-place finish, defeating South Africa 4-3 on penalties in the bronze medal match. It marked Ghana’s first WAFCON medal since 2016.
Despite the team’s achievement, Boaduwaa came under scrutiny after failing to score during the tournament, a performance that contrasted sharply with the expectations placed on her prior to the competition.
Heading into WAFCON, Boaduwaa was widely tipped to shine. She had been crowned Female Footballer of the Year at the Ghana Football Awards and impressed with a hat-trick in a pre-tournament friendly against Malawi. However, she struggled to find her rhythm in Morocco and was overshadowed by teammates who delivered more consistent performances throughout the tournament.
Taking to her official X (formerly Twitter) account, Boaduwaa acknowledged the criticism and took responsibility for her performances.
“Not my finest tournament but still a memorable one! I apologize to my fans for not quite living up to expectations. I know I’m capable of more and I promise to bounce back stronger,” she wrote.
