Ghana U-20 head coach Desmond Ofei has praised his players for their resilience and tactical discipline after securing a narrow 1-0 win over the Central African Republic in their final Group C match at the 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Black Satellites dominated the game for large spells but were frustrated for much of the encounter by a well-organised Central African Republic defence.

It wasn’t until the 84th minute that substitute Joseph Opoku broke the deadlock with a sublime finish, sealing Ghana’s place in the quarter-finals of the tournament currently being held in Egypt.

Reacting to the win in his post-match interview, Coach Ofei commended his team for sticking to the game plan and showing maturity.

“We didn’t rush the game. That was very important,” he said. “The boys controlled the game, worked the ball well, and stayed patient even when the goal didn’t come early. I’m happy for them — they earned this win.”

The victory sees the Black Satellites finish the group stage with seven points, joining Senegal in the knockout round.

With a spot in the quarter-finals now secured, Ghana will shift focus to their next opponent, with hopes of reclaiming continental glory after last winning the competition in 2021.
