Ghana’s Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has revealed that the government is planning to renovate the Cape Coast Stadium and reserve it exclusively for the Black Stars, as part of efforts to improve the country’s football infrastructure.

The decision comes in response to Ghana’s recent challenges in securing a CAF-approved stadium for home games, which led to the national team temporarily playing some of its matches outside the country.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with 3Sports on Sports Station, Adams emphasized that once the Cape Coast Stadium is refurbished, it will no longer be available for club matches.

“If you look at the key stadium facilities we have, Cape Coast is the one that we will not spend so much to refurbish quickly, and not allow any club to play there; just keep it as a national stadium for Black Stars only, for the meantime,” Adams stated.

He further explained that the goal is to ensure that the stadium is in top condition for the Black Stars’ next home qualifiers in September and October.

Once the Cape Coast Stadium is fully renovated and operational, the Ministry will then shift its focus to upgrading Accra Sports Stadium and Baba Yara Sports Stadium, ensuring that all major sporting venues meet international competition standards.

The move aligns with the government’s broader strategy to prioritize national team matches and provide the Black Stars with a dedicated home venue, free from club football activity.
