Nii Lante Vanderpuye Calls for Radical Reforms in Ghana Football
Former Youth and Sports Minister, Nii Lante Vanderpuye, has expressed his frustration with the state of Ghanaian football, suggesting that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) should be dissolved to address the Black Stars’ recent failures.
His remarks come in the wake of Ghana’s failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), marking a low point for the national team.
Speaking in an interview with Pure FM, Mr. Vanderpuye criticized the GFA’s leadership and blamed them for the team’s poor performance.
“I would have collapsed the Ghana Football Association if I were the Sports Minister,” Vanderpuye declared. “The GFA is quick to sack coaches when there’s a problem, so why can’t they also be held accountable? The current state of affairs stinks, and drastic measures are needed.”
The former minister argued that disbanding the GFA would provide an opportunity to rebuild Ghanaian football from the ground up.
“I know FIFA would ban us, but that time could be used to set things right. Right now, there are too many personal interests driving decisions about the Black Stars, and this is clearly affecting their performance,” he added.
