Black Stars forward Brandon Thomas-Asante says he is determined to keep scoring for Ghana after opening his international account in Wednesday night’s 2-1 loss to Nigeria in the semifinals of the 2025 Unity Cup in London.

The Coventry City striker netted a 70th-minute consolation goal at the GTech Community Stadium, marking his first goal for the national team in only his third appearance. Despite the defeat, Thomas-Asante expressed pride in his achievement and hopes it will be the beginning of a productive journey with the Black Stars.

“On the whole, it was a bit frustrating. This is the biggest game for us; we know we can win against these teams,” he said in his post-match interview. “Frustrating on that note, but I’m also happy to score my first goal for Ghana, which I intend to do for a very long time.”

The Unity Cup clash attracted a packed crowd in West London, with fans from both Ghana and Nigeria creating a lively atmosphere that added to the significance of the occasion. For Thomas-Asante, the electric environment was a special highlight.

“It was amazing, it shows what football is about. Even though half of the fans are for you and half are against you, the whole atmosphere was amazing,” he noted. “We want to see more days like this… We enjoyed it.”

The 25-year-old’s goal offered a bright spot for Ghana, who had fallen behind in the first half to a Cyriel Dessers strike and an own goal by Razak Simpson. Coach Otto Addo’s side improved after the break, and Thomas-Asante’s finish was a reward for their spirited response.

Ghana will now turn their focus to the third-place playoff, where they face Trinidad and Tobago on Saturday, May 31, as they aim to finish the Unity Cup on a high.
