Black Stars Relocate Training Base After Queiroz Raises Privacy Concerns
The Black Stars have switched their training base in the United States after head coach Carlos Queiroz raised concerns over the accessibility of their previous venue as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Ghana had initially been training at facilities on the American University campus, but the open nature of the environment prompted concerns from the technical team. Students and members of the public were reportedly able to observe training sessions, creating worries about privacy and security ahead of the tournament.
Queiroz is understood to have voiced his reservations as the Black Stars entered a crucial stage of their World Cup preparations, with tactical drills and team strategies becoming increasingly important.
Following the coach’s concerns, protocol officer Alex Asante, assistant coach Desmond Ofei and high-performance coach John Paintsil were tasked with identifying an alternative training venue that would offer greater privacy and better working conditions.
After assessing several options, the team settled on the training facilities of Major League Soccer club DC United, where preparations will now continue.
According to Ghana Football Association Communications Director Henry Asante Twum, the move was necessary despite the additional financial commitment involved.
The entire Ghana delegation, including players, coaches and officials, has already relocated to the new camp as the team focuses on final preparations for the global tournament.
The decision reflects the Black Stars’ determination to create an environment that allows the coaching staff to work without unnecessary distractions while safeguarding tactical information ahead of the competition.
With the World Cup fast approaching, Queiroz and his technical team are expected to maintain an intensive training programme aimed at ensuring the squad is fully prepared for the challenges ahead.
Ghana will begin its Group L campaign against Panama on June 17 before taking on England and Croatia in what promises to be a demanding group-stage schedule.
The relocation is seen as another important step in the Black Stars’ efforts to maximise their preparation time as they seek to make a strong impression at their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance.
