Black Satellites Focused on World Cup Qualification- Emmanuel Mensah
Ghana U-20 forward Emmanuel Mensah has reaffirmed the team’s ambition to win the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and secure qualification to the FIFA U-20 World Cup.
The Black Satellites reignited their campaign on Monday night with a hard-fought 1-0 win over defending champions Senegal in their second Group C match. The victory followed a frustrating 1-1 draw against DR Congo in their opening fixture.
The win puts Ghana second in Group C with four points, boosting their hopes of advancing to the knockout stage.
Speaking after the crucial victory in Egypt, Emmanuel Mensah, who was named Man of the Match, praised the team’s improved performance and emphasized their ultimate goals.
“We prepared very well,” Mensah told reporters. “The first game, we didn’t take our chances, so we worked on our attacking.”
He added, “Our mission is to qualify for the World Cup, that is our mission — and definitely to win the AFCON.”
The Black Satellites will complete their group stage campaign against the Central African Republic on Thursday in Ismailia. A win or draw could see Ghana progress to the quarterfinals as they aim for a fifth U-20 continental crown and a ticket to the global showpiece.
