Ghana’s U20 national team, the Black Satellites, have been handed a challenging group for the upcoming U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), scheduled to take place in Ivory Coast this April.

Returning to the tournament for the first time since their 2021 triumph, the Satellites have been placed in Group A alongside hosts Ivory Coast, Tanzania, DR Congo, and a team yet to be confirmed from the UNIFFAC zone.

The group presents a tough test for Ghana as they seek to reclaim their continental crown and secure a spot in the U20 World Cup.

The draw has produced intriguing fixtures, with established footballing nations poised to battle it out across three groups:

  • Group A: Ivory Coast, Ghana, Tanzania, DR Congo, and UNIFFAC 2.
  • Group B: Nigeria, Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa.
  • Group C: Senegal (defending champions), Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone.

The U20 AFCON is set to begin on April 26, 2025, and will conclude on May 16, 2025. The competition will see the top two teams from each group, along with the best two third-placed sides, advance to the knockout stages.

The stakes are high, as the top four teams will earn tickets to represent Africa at the FIFA U20 World Cup.
