Accra Hearts of Oak wrapped up their 2024/25 Ghana Premier League campaign on a high note, securing a 1-0 win over champions Samartex at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday.

The solitary goal came from defender Konadu Yiadom in the second half, ensuring the Phobians clinched all three points and leapfrogged rivals Asante Kotoko to finish fourth on the final league table.

Aboubakar Ouattara’s side entered the clash in fine form, unbeaten in their last five matches — three wins and two draws — and showed their determination to end the season strongly. Samartex, who had already wrapped up the title, arrived in Accra with two defeats in their previous five matches, and their performance reflected a side already looking beyond the season finale.

The game started with Hearts pressing high and creating early chances, but Samartex’s defence held firm. Despite the Phobians’ early dominance, the Timber Giants managed to keep the hosts at bay, and the first half ended goalless.

After the restart, Hearts maintained their intensity, and it eventually paid off. Konadu Yiadom rose highest to head home the winner, sparking celebrations in the stands and on the bench.

While the league title eluded them, the strong end to the campaign gives Hearts a solid platform to build on for next season, with fans hopeful that a return to title contention is within reach.
