Head coach of the Black Queens, Kim Lars Björkegren, has expressed disappointment over his team’s 1-0 loss to the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, but commended his players for their resilience and strong performance.

Speaking in his post-match interview, the Swedish tactician emphasized that Ghana deserved at least a draw after working tirelessly throughout the game.

“This is the worst feeling to have as a coach and as a player. When you work hard for almost a whole game, you deserve a draw result. You have the chances to actually win, and then you are unlucky in the end—the ball bouncing, and they score when there is nothing left,” Björkegren remarked.

Despite the defeat, he praised the effort of his players, noting that their defensive structure and teamwork were impressive.

“I’m really proud of the girls. They worked hard. There haven’t been many training sessions together, but the focus has been to work as a group and be well-organized in defense. They did an amazing job. I’m happy with the girls,” he added.

The Black Queens are currently on a training tour in Morocco, preparing for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). Following their game against Morocco, they will face AS FAR in another friendly before concluding their tour.
