Asante Kotoko Set to Resume Action After Nana Pooley’s Final Funeral Rites
Asante Kotoko have confirmed that they will return to competitive action after the final funeral rites of their late supporter, Francis Frimpong, popularly known as Nana Pooley.
The passionate Kotoko fan tragically lost his life after being stabbed during the club’s Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC in Nsuatre on February 2, 2025.
In the wake of the shocking incident, Asante Kotoko suspended all first-team activities in solidarity with their fallen supporter. However, following extensive discussions with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ghana Police Service, the club resumed training last week.
Speaking on the club’s return, Kotoko’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), Lawyer Sarfo Duku, confirmed the team’s decision to resume competition after Nana Pooley’s final funeral rites.
“I would like to declare that, based on the happenings, Asante Kotoko shall be ready for action after the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley,” Sarfo Duku stated.
Although some fans had not been directly consulted, the PRO clarified the club’s stance, highlighting financial obligations and the need to meet the CAF calendar.
“We have players we have to pay, we have a CAF calendar to meet. The fans are aware of every step we take. They always take part in the meeting with all the stakeholders,” he explained.
With their return to action now confirmed, Asante Kotoko will shift focus to their Ghana Premier League campaign, aiming to honor the memory of Nana Pooley with strong performances on the pitch.
