Black Queens Held by Tanzania as WAFCON Preparations Continue in Casablanca
Ghana’s Black Queens wrapped up another phase of their preparations for the 2026 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations with a goalless draw against Tanzania in an international friendly played in Casablanca on Monday.
The Black Queens dominated possession for much of the encounter and produced several promising attacking moves, but were unable to convert their chances against a well-organised Tanzanian defence.
Kim Lars Björkegren’s side dictated the tempo from the opening whistle, circulating the ball confidently and probing for openings as they looked to build on recent encouraging performances ahead of the continental showpiece.
Despite Ghana’s attacking intent, Tanzania remained disciplined at the back and frustrated the Black Queens throughout the first half, limiting clear-cut scoring opportunities.
Following the interval, head coach Kim Lars Björkegren refreshed his side with a series of substitutions, using the friendly as another opportunity to evaluate his squad and experiment with different tactical combinations before the tournament begins.
The changes injected fresh energy into Ghana’s play, with the Black Queens continuing to push forward in search of a winning goal. However, Tanzania’s defensive organisation ensured the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.
Although neither side found the net, the match served as another important step in Ghana’s build-up to WAFCON 2026, allowing the technical team to continue refining tactics, improve match sharpness and assess player performances under competitive conditions.
The Black Queens are expected to use the lessons from the friendly as they continue preparations for the tournament, where they will be aiming to make a strong impression against Africa’s best teams.
With the competition fast approaching, Björkegren and his technical staff will now shift their attention to finalising the squad and polishing key tactical details as Ghana looks to mount a serious challenge for continental honours in Morocco.
