Ghana’s Black Queens are gearing up for a decisive clash against Tanzania in their final Group C match at the 2024 TotalEnergies Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco, with qualification hopes hanging in the balance.

After a mixed start to the tournament — a 2-0 defeat to South Africa and a 1-1 draw with Mali — the Queens find themselves in a must-win situation. Only three points from Monday’s encounter at the Berkane Municipal Stadium will keep Ghana in the hunt for a spot in the knockout stages.

Head coach Kim Björkegren reflected on the team’s journey so far, acknowledging the disappointment following the draw with Mali, but maintaining a sense of optimism.

“We worked hard for three points, so we were disappointed with just one point. But getting at least one point was important, and now everything is in our own hands,” he stated.

Despite the results, Ghana has shown attacking promise, generating a total of 31 shots across their two games. Coach Björkegren remains confident that his side will find their scoring touch at a crucial time.

“We had 13 shots against South Africa and 18 against Mali, but only one goal. We know we can score more, and we will. Players like Adubia and Alice Kusi can step up,” he said.

With the pressure mounting, the Swedish tactician expressed full belief in his squad’s ability to rise to the occasion.

“We are in a great position,” Björkegren concluded. “I still believe in the players. I’m sure we’re going to win this game and move on from there.”

Kickoff for the vital fixture is scheduled for 19:00 GMT on Monday, July 14, 2025, at the Berkane Municipal Stadium. All eyes will be on the Black Queens as they seek to extend their WAFCON journey.
