Black Stars goalkeeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi believes the strong bond within Ghana’s squad could prove crucial as the team prepares for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The St. Gallen goalkeeper has been encouraged by the atmosphere in camp, describing the current group as united, motivated and fully committed to achieving success on football’s biggest stage.

After spending the past few weeks together in training camps in Wales and the United States, the players have developed a close-knit environment that Ati-Zigi hopes will translate into positive performances during the tournament.

“I think it’s really a good group. We’re all together. We fight for each other. You can see there’s really positive vibes each and every time. This is what we like and this is what we want to keep up,” Ati-Zigi told GFA Media.

The goalkeeper believes maintaining that togetherness will be key as Ghana prepares to face some of the world’s top teams in Group L.

“We want to take this positive energy into the games. We hope that we can have a very good World Cup.”

The Black Stars have undergone an intensive preparation programme ahead of the tournament, beginning with a training camp in Cardiff before relocating to the United States to continue their build-up.

Since taking over the national team two months before the World Cup, head coach Carlos Queiroz has placed significant emphasis on strengthening team chemistry while implementing his tactical philosophy.

The Portuguese manager inherited the role following the departure of Otto Addo and has worked to foster unity within a squad that blends experienced internationals with emerging talent.

The positive mood in camp has been evident both on and off the training pitch, with players regularly engaging in team activities as they build camaraderie ahead of the competition.

Ghana face a challenging group-stage campaign, having been drawn alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will begin their World Cup journey against Panama in Toronto on June 17 before taking on England in Boston six days later. Their final group fixture will be against Croatia in Philadelphia on June 27.

Having last reached the knockout rounds during their memorable quarter-final run at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, Ghana will be hoping the spirit of unity highlighted by Ati-Zigi can help fuel another successful campaign on the global stage.
