Asante Kotoko have reportedly stepped up efforts to appoint a new permanent head coach after opening discussions with UK-born Ghanaian tactician Chris Baffour-Akoto.

Sources close to the club indicate that conversations between both parties have been positive as the Porcupine Warriors continue their search for a long-term managerial solution following a turbulent campaign.

Kotoko are understood to be considering Baffour-Akoto as a leading candidate for the position after his recent departure from Luxembourg Premier League outfit Titus Petange due to work permit complications.

Despite the encouraging discussions, the Kumasi-based giants are expected to take their time before confirming a final appointment.

The club endured managerial instability throughout the just-ended season, with current interim boss Hamza Obeng becoming the latest figure to take charge after multiple changes on the technical bench.

Former substantive coach Karim Zito eventually left his role following mounting pressure from supporters frustrated by the team’s inconsistent performances. Assistant coach Prince Yaw Owusu had also exited earlier amid growing tension surrounding results.

Kotoko’s leadership is now determined to identify a coach capable of rebuilding the club and restoring its competitive identity both domestically and on the continental stage.

Baffour-Akoto has gained growing recognition within Ghanaian football circles after an impressive spell with Rospak FC during the 2024/25 Division One League season. Under his guidance, the club finished second after collecting 59 points, winning more than 18 matches and scoring 50 goals.

The UEFA Licence A holder has also previously worked with Crawley U-21 and Fort William, while serving as a video assistant coach with Ghana’s Black Stars and the national U-20 team.

There is increasing belief within Kotoko that his tactical philosophy and approach to youth development could suit the club’s current squad profile.

Club officials are also said to value his reputation within the game, believing his presence could help strengthen the dressing room and attract quality signings ahead of next season.

Kotoko are reportedly eager to conclude the appointment process early to allow the incoming coach enough time to familiarise himself with the squad and the club’s structures before pre-season preparations begin.
