Asamoah Gyan calls for consistency after Black Stars’ emphatic win over Central African Republic
Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has urged the Black Stars to maintain consistency following their dominant 5–0 triumph over the Central African Republic (CAR) in the penultimate 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier in Morocco.
The Black Stars produced one of their most commanding performances in recent memory at the Stade d’Honneur de Meknès, with goals from Mohammed Salisu, Thomas Partey, Jordan Ayew, Alexander Djiku, and Kamaldeen Sulemana sealing an emphatic victory.
The result extended Ghana’s lead at the top of Group I to 22 points, leaving the team just one point away from officially booking a place at next year’s World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.
Reflecting on the win, Gyan — Ghana’s all-time leading scorer — commended the team for their effort but stressed the need for sustained excellence to achieve long-term success.
“We need to be more consistent. Consistency is very important in the game,” he said after the thrilling clash in Meknes.
The former Al Ain and Sunderland striker added that the performance against CAR showed the true potential of the team when players remain focused and cohesive.
The Black Stars will wrap up their qualification campaign on Sunday, October 12, when they host Comoros at the Accra Sports Stadium, knowing that even a draw would be enough to seal their return to the global stage.
