Accra Lions FC have been handed a GH¢5,000 fine by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) after being found guilty of misconduct related to their social media activity.

The GFA Disciplinary Committee ruled that the club’s social media posts following their 1-0 defeat to Dreams FC were inappropriate and damaged the reputation of Ghanaian football.

Accra Lions posted several comments during and after the match, criticizing the match officials and implying that external influences played a role in the game’s outcome.

The final whistle tweet, which suggested the game was deliberately orchestrated in favor of Dreams FC, was deemed the most serious violation.

According to the GFA Prosecutor, the club’s conduct breached Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, as their commentary was classified as misconduct that brings the game into disrepute.

In addition to the GH¢5,000 fine, Accra Lions have received an official warning from the GFA. The club has been cautioned to refrain from such behavior in the future, as any repeated violations could result in harsher penalties.
