Ghana Premier League side Accra Lions has been charged by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) for misconduct following comments made on the club’s official social media accounts during their Week 16 clash against Dreams FC.

The match, played on Sunday, January 5, 2025, ended in a narrow 1-0 defeat for Accra Lions. During the game, the club took to X (formerly Twitter) to express dissatisfaction with the refereeing decisions, alleging bias towards their opponents, Dreams FC.

The controversial social media posts accused the match officials of favoring Dreams FC, particularly in the second half, sparking widespread reactions among fans and stakeholders.

In an official notice issued by the GFA, the association explained the basis for the charges:
“Accra Lions have been charged with a breach of Section 34(6)(d) of the GFA Premier League Regulations, 2019, following their Ghana Premier League game against Dreams FC. It is alleged that the club’s social media commentary on the match officials of the said game constitutes misconduct that brings the name of the game into disrepute.”

Accra Lions have been given until Wednesday, January 8, 2025, to officially respond to the charges.
