Two of Ghana’s most iconic football legends, Abedi Ayew Pele and Asamoah Gyan, have been officially appointed as Ambassadors for the 2025 CAF African Schools Football Championship, which will be hosted in Accra from April 21 to April 26.

The announcement celebrates the duo’s immense legacy in African football and their continuous dedication to nurturing young talent.

Their involvement is expected to bring inspiration and global attention to the youth tournament, which will be staged at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Abedi Pele, a three-time African Footballer of the Year, is revered for his elegance, creativity, and leadership on the pitch. The former Black Stars captain was part of Ghana’s squad that won the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in 1982 and famously led the team to the 1992 finals. At the club level, he enjoyed a stellar career in Europe, most notably with French giants Marseille and Lille.

Asamoah Gyan, Ghana’s all-time leading goal scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances, also joins as an ambassador. Renowned for his clinical finishing and big-game performances, Gyan’s career saw him feature in top leagues across the world, including the English Premier League, Serie A, and the UAE Pro League.

Gyan previously served as an ambassador for the second edition of the CAF African Schools Championship and returns to continue his advocacy for youth football development on the continent.

Speaking about their appointments, the pair emphasized the importance of investing in grassroots football.

“We must inspire the next generation to believe in themselves and dream big,” said Abedi Pele, who also runs Nania FC — a club known for developing young football talents in Ghana. “This tournament is not just about winning. It’s about development, exposure, and learning.”

Gyan also shared his enthusiasm: “Football gave me everything I have today. It is my responsibility to give back. Supporting youth football is one of the best ways we can build a brighter future for African football.”

Their ambassadorial roles will include promoting the tournament across the continent, engaging with young players, and encouraging participation through mentorship and motivation.
