Ghanaian boxer Amadu Mohammed is guaranteed at least a bronze medal at the 2026 Commonwealth Games after edging England’s Ellis Trowbridge in a closely contested men’s 55kg quarter-final.
The reigning African Games champion progressed to the last four following a split-decision victory, overcoming one of the tournament favourites in a fiercely fought contest that showcased his resilience and tactical discipline.
Mohammed was made to work for every point as both fighters traded punches in an evenly matched bout. His composure in the closing stages, however, proved decisive as the judges awarded him the win.
The victory continues an impressive run for the Ghanaian, who had announced his arrival in Glasgow with a dominant first-round stoppage in his opening contest.
By reaching the semi-finals, Mohammed has secured Ghana’s second medal of the Games, following Zinabu Issah’s silver medal in the women’s F57 shot put.
