Dr. Kwame Kyei Expresses Regret Over Involvement in Ghana Football After Nations FC
Bankroller of Ghana Premier League title contenders Nations FC, Dr. Kwame Kyei, has voiced his profound disappointment and frustration following violent incidents that marred his club’s match against Basake Holy Stars on Sunday.
The high-stakes encounter, held at the Ampain AAK II Arena, descended into chaos as Dr. Kyei and club president Mr. Divine Kyei Boadu were allegedly assaulted during the course of the match. The visiting team, Nations FC, ultimately abandoned the game, citing what they described as biased officiating after two controversial penalties were awarded to the home side.
In a candid interview with Asempa FM, Dr. Kyei did not hold back his emotions, stating, “I have regretted getting involved in Ghana football.”
The experienced football administrator and businessman further revealed that the events of Sunday had taken a toll on his passion for the game.
“I have lost the passion for it. We are hoping for a change. If we all sit and only complain about it, then we are not acting right as elderly people,” he added.
Dr. Kyei’s remarks come at a time when Nations FC are on the cusp of making history, with a potential victory in the abandoned game enough to crown them champions of the Ghana Premier League for the first time.
As the league nears its conclusion, the controversy has sparked wider calls for reforms in officiating and security protocols at match venues to protect players, officials, and club executives.
