Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah Confident Black Queens Are Ready for WAFCON 2026 Challenge
Black Queens midfielder Chantelle Boye-Hlorkah has expressed confidence in Ghana’s preparations ahead of their opening match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON), insisting the squad is eager to get the tournament underway.
The Black Queens will begin their campaign on Wednesday, July 29, when they take on Cape Verde in Casablanca. Ghana will be aiming to start the competition on a positive note as they seek a deep run in the continental showpiece.
While Cape Verde are preparing for their maiden appearance at WAFCON, Ghana enter the tournament as seasoned participants, making their 12th appearance in the competition.
Speaking before the opening fixture, Boye-Hlorkah highlighted the hard work the team has put in during camp and the excitement within the squad ahead of the tournament.
“Tomorrow is important. It’s the start of the WAFCON (for us). The girls are ready and excited; we’ve been waiting for it, and we have prepared really well,” she said.
The midfielder also pointed to the team’s previous experiences in Morocco as a source of confidence, stressing that the players know what is required to compete at the highest level.
“We had a good time out here last year, so now we are prepared to come back and do our job. We are ready to get going,” she added.
Ghana have spent several weeks fine-tuning their preparations, including a series of training sessions and friendly matches designed to sharpen the squad ahead of the tournament.
The Black Queens are expected to hold their final training session on Tuesday evening before turning their full attention to the challenge posed by Cape Verde.
With anticipation building, the team will be hoping to translate their preparation into a strong performance when they step onto the pitch for their first WAFCON 2026 assignment. The match is scheduled to kick off at 17:00 GMT.
