Zito Vows Tactical Approach for Kwara United Return Leg
Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has signaled that his team will head into the decisive second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary round tie with a carefully designed strategy to unsettle Nigerian side Kwara United.
The Porcupine Warriors edged a pulsating first-leg encounter at the Accra Sports Stadium on Sunday, running out 4-3 winners in front of their home fans. Albert Amoah led the charge with a brace, while Emmanuel Antwi and Joseph Ablorh were also on target in what turned into a thrilling contest filled with attacking flair from both sides.
Reflecting on the dramatic win, Zito admitted he was delighted with the resilience of his players but made clear that the real challenge lies ahead in Abuja.
“At the end of the day, nobody thought we could even score two or three goals,” the Kotoko coach remarked. “What makes me a little happy is that we won by four goals to three. Now I will plan how to go there and try to do what they came here to do.”
Kotoko will now travel to the M.K.O. Abiola International Stadium for the second leg, knowing that even a narrow defeat could see them eliminated on aggregate. Zito, however, is confident that with the right tactical adjustments, his side can not only find the net but also frustrate their Nigerian opponents on home soil.
The stakes are high, with the winner of the tie set to book a clash against Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club in the next phase of the competition.
