Asante Kotoko head coach Karim Zito has played down speculation surrounding his future at the club following another frustrating result in the Ghana Premier League.

The Porcupine Warriors were held at home by relegation-threatened Berekum Chelsea in their Matchday 18 encounter at the Baba Yara Stadium, a result that further dented their title ambitions and left them six points behind leaders Medeama SC.

In the build-up to the game, reports had surfaced suggesting that Kotoko’s hierarchy was unhappy with recent performances and was considering Zito’s future. Addressing the issue after the match, the experienced trainer acknowledged the rumours but maintained that they have not affected his composure.

“I can’t speak about tomorrow because, as you’ve mentioned, there are reports that management wants me out. These recent results have made the situation more difficult, so if that is truly their intention, then the opportunity has presented itself now,” Zito told the media.

Despite the growing noise, the former Black Satellites coach made it clear that he has received no formal indication from the club regarding a possible dismissal and remains focused on his responsibilities.

“I am free to go to Nsawam today. Throughout my coaching career, I have never been sacked, and I have neither seen nor heard anything from management suggesting they intend to appoint a new coach. Until the people who brought me here officially ask me to leave, I am not concerned about what is being said or reported on social media,” he added.

With pressure mounting, Zito will be eager to silence the speculation on the pitch when Asante Kotoko travel to Bibiani to face Gold Stars at DUN’s Park in their Matchday 19 fixture on Sunday.
