Asante Kotoko head coach Abdul Karim Zito has described his team’s 3-1 defeat to Vision FC on the final day of the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season as a “wake-up call” ahead of their MTN FA Cup final clash against Division One side Golden Kicks.

The Porcupine Warriors were stunned at the Nii Adjei Kraku II Sports Complex in Tema on Sunday, bringing an end to their league campaign on a disappointing note. Despite taking the lead through Emmanuel Antwi in the first half, Kotoko conceded three goals — with Edmond Asante and Frank Duku (brace) completing a dramatic comeback for Vision.

Speaking after the match, Coach Zito remained upbeat, insisting that the defeat may have come at the right time as they prepare for a more significant challenge.

“The positive side of this game is a wake-up call to the finals [FA Cup],” Zito said. “I am going to play because I saw it coming before the Medeama game. So I am not too much worried because at the end of the day my winning will not give me the title but it will place me in a better position.”

“It is a wake-up call to the finals and I am happy to see it now because it will also help me to rearrange my boys well for the finals. Positively, it will help me. So I told them that I am going to use this game to prepare for the finals.”

Zito, who took over the team in the latter part of the season, has already guided Kotoko to the final of the MTN FA Cup — their last shot at silverware in what has been a turbulent campaign.

The FA Cup final, scheduled for June 15 at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium in Legon, presents an opportunity for Kotoko to finish the season with a major trophy and a ticket to the CAF Confederation Cup.
