Black Satellites assistant coach, Fatawu Salifu, has reaffirmed Ghana’s determination to win the upcoming WAFU Zone B U20 Cup of Nations, which is set to take place from July 10 to 23, 2025, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram.

Ghana has been drawn in Group A alongside regional powerhouses Nigeria and Benin, in what promises to be a tightly contested group. Each team will play two matches in the group stage due to the three-team format, with the top two progressing to the semifinals.

The Black Satellites will kick off their campaign against long-time rivals Nigeria on July 10 before locking horns with Benin on July 16 to complete their group fixtures.

Speaking to the Ghana Football Association’s media team, Coach Fatawu Salifu emphasized the team’s commitment to redeeming their image after a disappointing outing at the last U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

“Ghana in any competition is expected to win in the end, so Ghanaians of course are expecting us to win now that it’s in Ghana. All they need to expect from us is good football and also in the end, we win the tournament,” he stated.

The former Heart of Lions trainer believes hosting the tournament presents Ghana with the perfect opportunity to reclaim regional supremacy and secure qualification to the next U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.

With preparations in full swing, the technical team is working closely with the players to ensure tactical sharpness, cohesion, and mental readiness ahead of the opener against Nigeria.

The WAFU Zone B U20 tournament serves as a crucial pathway to continental competition and has historically produced talents who go on to become stars at the senior level.

Coach Fatawu concluded by calling on Ghanaians to rally behind the team as they aim to lift the trophy on home soil and restore national pride.
