U20 AFCON: Jerry Afriyie Rejoins Black Satellites Camp Ahead of Quarter-Final Clash Against Egypt
Talented Ghanaian striker Jerry Afriyie has returned to the Black Satellites camp in Egypt ahead of their crucial quarter-final tie against host nation Egypt in the ongoing 2025 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Afriyie temporarily left the national camp on May 6 to honour club duties with Spanish side CD Lugo, following a prior arrangement between the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the club.
The agreement allowed the striker to return to Spain after the group stage of the U-20 AFCON to feature in an important league fixture.
The prolific forward made a remarkable impact on Saturday, scoring a goal and providing an assist in CD Lugo’s 2-2 draw against Gimnastic, helping his club avoid defeat in a fiercely contested encounter.
Following his club commitment, Afriyie has flown back to Egypt and rejoined the Ghana U-20 national team as they gear up for their high-stakes knockout match.
“Ghana forward Jerry Afriyie has rejoined the Black Satellites camp in Egypt ahead of the team’s highly anticipated quarter-final clash against hosts Egypt at the ongoing TotalEnergies U-20 Africa Cup of Nations Egypt 2025,” the GFA confirmed in an official statement released on Sunday, May 11.
Afriyie featured in Ghana’s first two group matches before making the trip to Spain. His return brings a significant boost to Coach Desmond Ofei’s attacking options ahead of Monday’s quarter-final encounter.
Ghana’s clash with Egypt is set to take place at the Suez Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM local time on Monday, May 12.
