Thomas Partey Unbothered by Black Stars Captaincy Decision – Henry Asante Twum
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) Communications Director, Henry Asante Twum, has dismissed concerns over Thomas Partey losing the Black Stars captaincy, insisting that the Arsenal midfielder remains fully committed to the team’s collective success.
Partey, who previously served as vice-captain under Andre Ayew, has reportedly chosen to step away from any leadership role in the squad. As a result, Jordan Ayew has been named captain for Ghana’s upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar, filling in for Andre Ayew, who was not included in the squad.
Speaking on Sporty FM, Asante Twum clarified that Partey is not concerned about no longer holding a leadership role within the national team.
“It’s not a problem for Thomas Partey that he’s no longer the Black Stars captain. It’s not about individual aspirations,” he stated.
Ghana will host Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium before traveling to Morocco to take on Madagascar on March 24.
The Black Stars are currently second in Group I, tied on nine points with leaders Comoros, and will be looking to secure maximum points in these crucial encounters.
