Team Ghana Athletes Set for Busy Wednesday at Commonwealth Games
Team Ghana will have another packed day of competition on Wednesday, July 29, as athletes across athletics, boxing and weightlifting take centre stage at the 2026 Commonwealth Games.
The day’s action begins with the women’s 200m heats at 9:30 a.m., where Anita Afrifa will represent Ghana in Heat 4 as she looks to secure a place in the next round.
Attention then shifts to the men’s 200m first round, starting at 10:32 a.m., with Joseph Paul Amoah competing in Heat 1, while James Dadzie lines up later in Heat 9.
In the women’s 400m hurdles first round, Lovina Ewusi will take to the track at 11:51 p.m., aiming to progress from Heat 1.
Team Ghana’s boxers will also be in action during the afternoon session. At 1:00 p.m., Precious Akai Nettey faces Merven Clair in the men’s 70kg quarter-finals, with a place in the semi-finals at stake.
At the same time, Ghana’s Forrester Osei will compete in the men’s 94kg weightlifting final, where he will be hoping to challenge for a place on the podium.
Later in the boxing competition, Desmond Pappoe will battle Joshua Ofori in the men’s 80kg quarter-finals, with the bout scheduled for 1:45 p.m.
The evening session begins at 6:33 p.m when Baba Mohammed competes in Heat 1 of the men’s 400m hurdles first round. The Ghanaian hurdler will be targeting a strong performance to secure qualification for the next stage of the event.
Attention will then turn to the boxing ring, where Daniel Plange will battle William John McCartan in the men’s 90kg+ quarter-finals at 8:00 p.m. A victory would see Plange move into the semi-finals and guarantee himself at least a bronze medal, keeping Ghana’s boxing medal hopes alive.
Later in the evening, Hayford Addai will represent Ghana in the men’s 100m T47 final, scheduled for 8:12 p.m. The para-athlete will be aiming to deliver one of the country’s standout performances as he competes for Commonwealth Games honours.
