Felix Lartey Urges Greater Investment in Sports Equipment to Shape Ghana’s Future Champions
Former Ghana national table tennis champion Felix Lartey has called for sustained investment in sports development, insisting that nurturing talent should take precedence over financial rewards if Ghana is to produce world-class athletes.
Lartey, who has remained actively involved in sports development through his foundation, believes providing young athletes with the right equipment and opportunities is the foundation for long-term success.
The former table tennis star explained that his commitment extends beyond Ghana, revealing that his foundation supports aspiring athletes across several African countries.
According to Lartey, meaningful development begins with creating the right environment for young sportsmen and women to flourish.
“Talent must be developed before we start talking about money,” he said.
He stressed that access to quality equipment is one of the biggest challenges facing many promising athletes on the continent and believes addressing that gap will unlock enormous potential.
“Through my foundation, I support sports by providing equipment, not only in Ghana but across Africa,” Lartey noted.
The former national champion is convinced that investing in grassroots sports today will create a stronger generation of athletes capable of competing on the world stage.
“Giving young athletes the right tools today will create champions for tomorrow,” he added.
Lartey’s comments come at a time when discussions around sports funding and athlete development continue to dominate conversations in Ghana, particularly as the country seeks greater success across multiple disciplines.
He believes a stronger focus on grassroots infrastructure, equipment and coaching will yield better long-term results than concentrating resources only on elite competitions.
Through his advocacy and foundation, Lartey hopes to inspire greater collaboration between government, corporate organisations and private individuals to invest in the future of African sport and help the next generation realise their full potential.
