Tanko Keeps Calm as Medeama’s Lead Narrows After Gold Stars Win

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has brushed aside suggestions of mounting pressure in the title race, insisting his side remains focused despite a tightening gap at the summit of the Ghana Premier League.

The Yellow and Mauves were held to a 1-1 draw by Swedu All Blacks in their Week 24 fixture on Sunday. Although Medeama delivered a strong overall performance, they were unable to secure all three points, settling instead for a share of the spoils.

Meanwhile, Bibiani Gold Stars strengthened their title charge with a 2-1 victory over Hearts of Oak, trimming Medeama’s advantage at the top of the table to just a single point. The result has intensified the competition as the season approaches its decisive stretch.

Despite the shifting dynamics, Tanko remains composed. The former Ghana international emphasized that his team’s priority is internal focus rather than external results.

“We have to look at our game. I don’t think we have to look elsewhere. If they won, we also picked a point here, and we are still league leaders, so we look at the next game,” Tanko noted.

His comments reflect a measured approach as Medeama seek to maintain consistency in the closing weeks of the campaign.

Attention now turns to Week 25, where Tanko and his squad will welcome Hohoe United. With the title race growing increasingly competitive, Medeama know that every point could prove decisive in their quest to remain at the top.
