Tanko Hails Tactical Shift as Medeama Fight Back to Claim Win Over Berekum Chelsea

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has attributed his side’s spirited comeback victory to key tactical adjustments made after the break in their 2–1 triumph over Berekum Chelsea on Sunday.

The league leaders overturned a first-half setback in Tarkwa, with second-half goals from Amo Mensah and Salim Adams sealing a crucial win that keeps Medeama firmly atop the Ghana Premier League table.

Reflecting on the early stages of the match, Tanko felt his team had done enough to take control but paid the price for a costly lapse.
“We controlled the game in the first half. We won many duels and second balls, created chances, but unfortunately, we could not score. The goal against us was also a result of our mistake,” he noted.

Seeking a response after the interval, Tanko turned to returning left-back Fatawu Sulemana—who replaced Paul Yeboah after recovering from injury—and also introduced Kingsley Braye for forward Kelvin Nkrumah. The double substitution provided the spark Medeama needed.

Their momentum soon paid off. Amo Mensah headed in the equalizer shortly after the restart, before Salim Adams unleashed a trademark long-range strike to complete the turnaround.

Tanko praised his side’s reaction to the changes made.
“But in the second half, we spoke to the players and made two changes. I think the team responded well to the changes we made and we deservedly got the goals,” he concluded.

The victory pushes Medeama two points clear at the summit with 26 points. Their next challenge is a tough trip to Bibiani to face reigning champions Gold Stars.
