Tanko Backs Medeama Depth After Kamaradini Exit to Al Hilal

Medeama SC head coach Ibrahim Tanko has played down fears over the departure of influential defender Kamaradini Mamudu, insisting his squad has enough quality to cope with the loss as the title race intensifies.

The Tarkwa-based club recently sanctioned Mamudu’s move to Sudanese heavyweights Al Hilal, bringing an end to a highly productive spell for the Ghana international. While Tanko admitted the right-back’s exit leaves a noticeable gap, he expressed confidence in the options still available to him.

“Kamaradini is a really fantastic guy, not only on the pitch but outside the pitch; he’s also very disciplined,” Tanko said.
“It’s very painful that we are going to miss him, but I think life must go on… Definitely, we are going to miss him, but I think we still have three right-backs that can also step on his feet.”

Mamudu’s influence at Medeama was immense. The 23-year-old emerged as the highest-scoring defender in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League with eight goals and had already found the net five times by Matchday 20 this season, playing a key role in pushing Medeama eight points clear at the summit.

Despite the setback, Tanko remains upbeat and used the moment to wish the defender success in the next chapter of his career.

“I wish him very well. I hope that he will go there and then like he did here,” he added.

Mamudu has joined Al Hilal, who are currently competing in and leading the Rwandan Premier League following the disruption caused by the civil unrest in Sudan.

As Medeama chase a second league title, Tanko’s belief in his squad depth will soon be tested, with the champions now tasked with sustaining their momentum without one of their most decisive performers.
