Berekum Chelsea forward Stephen Amankona has opened up about his ambitions to play for Ghana’s senior national team, the Black Stars, revealing that he remains focused and determined despite not receiving a call-up yet.

The 25-year-old attacker has been in fine form this season in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League, emerging as one of the league’s most consistent performers.

Amankona has netted 10 goals in 19 appearances for Berekum Chelsea so far, continuing the impressive form that saw him score 19 goals in 29 games last season.

Speaking to Akoma FM in an interview, Amankona expressed his desire to don the national colours but emphasized that he is not discouraged by the delay in earning a spot.

“I believe my time with the Black Stars has not yet come. Therefore, I am working hard to be ready when it comes,” he said.

His contributions have been vital for Berekum Chelsea, who continue to rely on his goal-scoring instincts and leadership up front. As the season progresses, Amankona will be hoping his consistent displays can finally earn him the long-awaited Black Stars call.
