Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports, Vincent Ekow Assafuah, has disclosed that the committee is still in the dark regarding the full budget allocation for the Black Stars’ recent international matches against Chad and Madagascar.

In an interview on Metro TV, Assafuah revealed that while some financial details—specifically salaries of technical staff—have been made available, the complete expenditure plan for the two fixtures remains undisclosed.

“We are not aware of the full budget for the Black Stars as we speak,” he stated.

“The only information that has been provided to the committee is the breakdown of salaries for the coaches and staff, such as the assistant coaches and team managers. These details were made available, but the actual budget for the games has not been shared with us.”

This revelation raises concerns about transparency, especially after President John Mahama, during his State of the Nation Address in February, vowed that the Black Stars’ budgets would no longer be kept secret and would be published to ensure accountability.

In response to growing public interest, the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has assured Ghanaians that the full budget for the recent matches will be made public in due time.

The call for transparency around the national team’s finances continues to gain momentum, with stakeholders urging the government and football authorities to follow through on their promises ahead of future international engagements.
