Semenyo Inspires Bournemouth to South Coast Triumph Over Brighton
Antoine Semenyo delivered a match-winning display at the Vitality Stadium as Bournemouth edged Brighton 2-1 in a thrilling Premier League clash on Saturday.
The Ghanaian forward was at the heart of the Cherries’ attacking play, providing an assist and converting a crucial penalty to seal the victory.
Bournemouth started brightly, with Semenyo’s quick feet and vision setting the tone. His clever hold-up play in the 18th minute created space for Alex Scott, who unleashed a superb strike into the top corner to give the hosts a deserved lead.
The goal sent the home crowd into celebration, and Bournemouth continued to push forward, troubling Brighton with their energy and sharp movement.
The visitors found their rhythm after the break and levelled the contest in the 51st minute. Kaoru Mitoma rose highest to meet Yankuba Minteh’s teasing cross, steering his header beyond the Bournemouth goalkeeper.
Encouraged by the equaliser, Brighton pressed for a second, but they were met with disciplined defending and quick counters from Andoni Iraola’s side.
The turning point came just past the hour mark. Awarded a penalty after sustained pressure, Semenyo stepped up with confidence. Showing composure beyond measure, he sent Petrovic the wrong way with a calm finish down the centre to restore Bournemouth’s lead in the 61st minute.
It was the striker’s third league goal of the season, further cementing his growing importance in Iraola’s set-up.
Brighton pressed hard in the closing stages, but Bournemouth held firm to secure all three points. Semenyo’s tireless display earned him a standing ovation as he was substituted late on, a testament to his impact on the game.
The win lifts Bournemouth’s spirits ahead of their next Premier League test against Newcastle on September 21.
