Representatives of Ghanaian sprinter Abdul-Rasheed Saminu have stepped in to address the fallout from his recent comments regarding preparations for the national 4x100m relay team ahead of the World Athletics Relays.

In a statement released on his behalf, the athlete’s camp emphasised that his earlier remarks were driven by a desire to improve Ghana’s approach to international athletics competitions and enhance performance standards.

According to the statement, the comments were “misinterpreted and taken out of context,” contributing to the public reaction that followed. It further indicated that the issues raised have since been handled by the appropriate authorities.

The statement also acknowledged that the situation led to an unfortunate exchange with a member of the media, resulting in reactions that did not reflect the athlete’s original intent.

“In the spirit of unity and progress, the athlete has clarified his position to the relevant stakeholders, reaffirming that his intention is to contribute positively to the growth of a healthy and supportive sports environment,” part of the statement read.

Saminu’s representatives used the opportunity to call for continued backing from stakeholders and fans, urging the public to support the sprinter as he prepares for upcoming international assignments.

The athlete is also expected to compete on home soil for the first time in his career, as he builds toward the African Athletics Championships, a key milestone in his development.

The statement concluded with an appeal for unity, encouraging Ghanaians to rally behind Saminu as he focuses on delivering strong performances on the global stage.
