Prosper Ogum Reflects on Shock 3-0 Defeat to Accra Lions
Asante Kotoko head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has admitted that despite his team entering their clash against Accra Lions with high spirits, the outcome was far from what they expected after suffering a 3-0 defeat on Monday.
Speaking after the match, Ogum revealed that his side appeared fully prepared—both mentally and physically—but quickly lost control once the game got underway.
“It may be that they are fatigued somehow, but then we are managing them well—physiologically, psychologically, we are managing them very well,” the Kotoko boss told the press.
“It is all about focus in games like this, so it may be that. But before the game, we looked very energetic, very confident—knowing very well we were going to play very well and then get the maximum points. But then, the dynamics changed.”
The Porcupine Warriors, who were aiming to bounce back following two consecutive draws, were stunned by the relegation-threatened Accra Lions. The loss now leaves Kotoko second on the Ghana Premier League table with 47 points from 27 matches—tied with Bibiani Gold Stars but behind on goal difference.
Accra Lions, who have been in desperate search of points to escape the relegation zone, showed more urgency and attacking intent throughout the game. Their dominance was rewarded with three goals that sealed a famous win and further complicated Kotoko’s title challenge.
Asante Kotoko will now turn their attention to a critical clash against Nations FC, where Ogum and his team will hope to reignite their campaign and keep pace in the increasingly competitive title race.
