President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep concern over the state of Ghana’s sporting sector, describing it as being in “shambles” and urging newly appointed Sports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, to lead a transformative agenda.

The President’s remarks come amid widespread calls for reform in Ghana’s sports administration, as issues ranging from poor infrastructure to management inefficiencies continue to hinder progress.

Speaking at Adams’ swearing-in ceremony at the Jubilee House on Friday, February 7, 2025, President Mahama did not mince words about the challenges facing Ghanaian sports.

“The shambles that Ghana’s sports have become today are completely unacceptable for a country with our pedigree,” the President stated, emphasizing the need for immediate action to restore Ghana’s sporting glory.

“I expect that you inject transparency, professionalism, and modernity into the management of the sector,” Mahama added, underlining his administration’s commitment to revitalizing sports in the country.

As Kofi Adams assumes his new role, there is a growing expectation that his tenure will bring the much-needed changes to reposition Ghana as a powerhouse in sports across the continent and beyond
