The Parliamentary Service of Ghana is set to officially launch the second edition of the annual Democracy Cup football match on Thursday, July 24, 2025, at the Justice D.F. Annan Auditorium, located within Parliament House in Accra.

The launch event, which is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm, will be led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. During the ceremony, the two teams participating in this year’s edition of the Democracy Cup will be unveiled, alongside key updates and information about the upcoming match.

According to a statement issued by the Media Relations Department of Parliament, the launch will also outline the details of the main event, which is expected to take place in August 2025.

The Democracy Cup was first introduced in 2024 as a one-off football competition initiated by the Parliament of Ghana, aimed at fostering civic engagement, national unity, and public interest in democratic governance through the medium of sports.

The inaugural edition, held on July 17, 2024, at the Accra Sports Stadium, featured Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak. The exciting encounter ended with Kotoko claiming the historic first title.

Building on that momentum, the Parliamentary Service has assured fans and stakeholders of an even more thrilling second edition, promising several surprises and enhanced excitement to promote the values of democracy through football.
