Otto Addo Checks In on Kwasi Sibo as World Cup Preparations Intensify
Ghana head coach Otto Addo continued his European monitoring tour with a stop in Madrid, where he visited midfielder Kwasi Sibo at Real Oviedo’s camp ahead of their weekend fixture against Atletico Madrid.
Addo arrived in the Spanish capital on Friday and held encouraging talks with the 27-year-old, who has been fighting his way back into the Oviedo lineup this season. Sibo’s growing influence has caught the attention of the Black Stars boss, especially his discipline, strong tactical awareness, and tireless ball-winning qualities—attributes he has shown since breaking into Ghana’s senior team.
The visit underscored Addo’s belief that Sibo could play a significant role in the months leading to the 2025 FIFA World Cup, with the technical team eager to keep close tabs on his progress.
The Ghana coach is expected to be in the stands at the Estadio Metropolitano on Saturday evening, hoping to watch Sibo earn minutes against Atletico Madrid. His presence is seen as an added motivation for the midfielder and a signal of the national team’s continued support.
Addo is also scheduled to meet Real Oviedo head coach Luis Carrión, where discussions will center on Sibo’s long-term development and securing more consistent playing time as part of Ghana’s broader World Cup strategy.
The trip is another example of Addo’s proactive approach as he works to assemble a sharp, competitive squad capable of performing on the world stage next year.
