The National Sports Authority (NSA) has officially announced that the suspension on professional boxing in Ghana will be lifted on Thursday, November 6, 2025, after the successful approval and implementation of new medical and safety standards.

The decision follows extensive consultations between the Ministry of Sports and Recreation and the Interim Management Committee (IMC) overseeing the sport’s normalization process.

According to the NSA, the IMC has made “significant progress in addressing the key issues that led to the suspension,” particularly improvements in medical and safety protocols, as well as governance and administrative reforms.

“This marks a major step toward restoring Ghana’s illustrious and proud boxing heritage,” the NSA stated, commending the IMC, athletes, and stakeholders for their patience and cooperation throughout the reform process.

The Authority emphasized that the lifting of the ban paves the way for a “vibrant return” of professional boxing and urged both local and foreign promoters to bring international bouts and partnerships to Ghana under the enhanced standards.

The newly approved roadmap includes:

  • Published Medical and Safety Manuals, Codes, and Regulations

  • A Functional Interim Medical Commission

  • A Centralized Medical Database

  • An Approved Insurance Framework

  • A Sustainable Medical Support System

  • Certified Ringside and Medical Staff

These measures, the NSA explained, will ensure “a credible, safe, and internationally respected return to the sport,” with an emphasis on athlete welfare, institutional integrity, and public confidence.

The Ghana Boxing Medical and Anti-Doping Team will oversee the full implementation and monitoring of the new protocols to ensure compliance across all sanctioned events.

The NSA reaffirmed its commitment to working with all partners to deliver a “safe, professional, profitable, and sustainable future for Ghana boxing.”
